At HIMSS, Dicom Systems re-released a new and expanded Unifier listing on Amazon Web Services (AWS) Marketplace to bring speed, interoperability, and scalability to healthcare organizations. Customers already using AWS as their secure cloud platform now have access to a robust ecosystem for Enterprise Imaging that has been verified for quality and pre-configured for 1-Click launch capability on AWS infrastructure. The automated and accelerated purchasing process for Unifier via AWS Marketplace ensures fast time-to-value for customers leveraging Dicom Systems solutions to manage clinical imaging data and workflow designs across their AWS and hybrid environment.
Healthcare and Clinical Imaging in the Cloud
Our collaboration with AWS dates back to 2015 when we were the first DICOM software company listed on Marketplace. What we quickly realized early on was how AWS Marketplace streamlines customer adoption via a consolidated purchase environment and integration with their AWS accounts. Since then, we have seen AWS attract leading healthcare partners to enable innovation across operations and business, care coordination, patient engagement, and our domain—clinical information systems and storage and archiving. The need to diversify deployment and architecture choices for our imaging customers led us to ramp up our integration with AWS. Dicom Systems plans to release a pay-as-you-go model on AWS later in 2019.
We are proud to have our use case featured for clinical appliances for imaging this month! Read about how Dicom Systems is enabling accelerated clinical deep learning models with an advanced de-identification framework by leveraging AWS Snowball for secure data migration and Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3) for data lake collaboration.
HIPAA Security and Compliance on AWS
In the last 12 months, AWS has released a comprehensive security strategy with healthcare customers in mind. They have taken a noticeably “more proactive” approach to compliance. AWS has a standard Business Associate Addendum (BAA) presented to customers for signature. It takes into account the unique services AWS provides and accommodates the AWS Shared Responsibility Model.
On the AWS Security Blog in July of 2018, they announced that healthcare customers and partners would now be able to accept a single AWS Business Associate Addendum (BAA) for all accounts within their organization. Once accepted, all current and future accounts created or added to the organization would immediately be covered by the BAA.
Just last month, AWS announced expanded service certification by certifying services at launch. For the first time, they have launched generally available services with PCI DSS, ISO 9001/27001/27017/27018, SOC 2, and HIPAA eligibility. According to their blog, “that means customers who rely on or require these compliance programs can select from 10 brand new services right away, without having to wait for one or more trailing audit cycles.”
